History of Decatur Chapter
In 2008, Brenda Broadnax and Vyvan Dean, members of the
Decatur Ebonites Social Club were introduced to the prospect
of becoming members of the National Epicureans, Inc. Brenda
and Vyvan were excited and thrilled with the idea of meeting
other females that enjoyed fellowship, camaraderie, and fun
as much as they did and transferred that excitement to the
Decatur Ebonites. Thus, the inception of the Decatur Chapter
of the National Epicureans, Inc. emerged.
In September of
2008, the Ebonites began their quest to become Epicureans.
The group was sponsored by the Atlanta Chapter of National
Epicureans, Inc and was assisted through the process by
Eppie Beverly Holsey, National Vice President and Past
National President, Dorothy Palmer. There were ten (10)
charter members: Brenda Broadnax, Vanessa Brown, Sallie
Carpenter, Juanita Carter, Vyvan Dean, Sarah Finch,
Josephine Lamar, Claudia Lawson, Flossie Varner, and Carol
Williams.
After months of planning, meeting deadlines,
and fellowship, the group was ready for their Induction
Weekend which was held November 6-8 at the lovely Crown
Plaza Hotel- Atlanta Ravinia. It was a blast and we were
honored to have "sisters" from the following chapters in
attendance: Atlanta, Chicago, Dayton, Elizabeth City,
Philadelphia, Tampa, Washington, D.C., and Wilmington.
Saturday, November 7, 2009 was the day! The induction was
held and our Chapter officers were installed by President
Rucker.
The Decatur Epicureans are actively involved in
civic service through their contributions of time and
monetary donations to the Sickle Cell Foundation and other
community initiatives.
In 2018 the Decatur Chapter was
honored to host the 67th Annual Conclave. The Chapter was
twelve strong and thoroughly enjoyed their Sister Eppies
from near and far; as we "Stepped To A Caribbean Beat".
As true Epicureans we continue to Eat, Drink and Be Merry!
